This course is designed to empower adults to help adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. You'll learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of distress, equipping you with the skills to provide support in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Who is This Course For?

This training is primarily for adults who regularly interact with young people. It is ideal for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, and other caring citizens who want to be prepared to help a young person in need.

What You'll Learn

This class reviews typical adolescent development and introduces common mental health challenges for youth. You will be taught a 5-step action plan to help young people. Topics covered include:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Substance use
  • Eating disorders
  • Disorders in which psychosis may occur
  • Disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD)
